Jigawa Copies Fayose on Herdsmen Encroachment

Jigawa state Farmers and Herdsmen Board has remunerated N680,000 to affected farmers in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of the state as part of efforts to compensate farmers whose farms were encroached upon by rampaging cattle.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Board, Rabi’u Miko who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the compensation was paid to 28 farmers whose crops were destroyed by encroaching cattle in Marma village, Iwo and Madaci villages of Kirikasamma Local Government Area.

Miko stated that 19 farmers from Marma village received N360,000 as compensation while 9 farmers in Iwo and Madaci villages received N500, 000. He also said that the operations of the board was in line with the provisions of the mobile court concerning cattle encroachment, and informed that any animal found encroaching farmland and destroying farm produce in the state will be impounded and be kept under custody.
“If the owner comes then we have our mobile court; but if nobody claims ownership of the impounded cattle, then we sell them and compensate the affected farmers,” Miko said.
